What is the Pupil Premium Grant?

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding given to schools to support pupils who may face disadvantage and help close the achievement gap.

Who is it for?

Pupils who:

·         Have ever received free school meals (FSM)

·         Are looked after or adopted from care

·         Are from Service families

How is it used?

1. Teaching

Staff training and professional development to improve teaching and learning for all pupils.

2. Academic Support

Targeted help to overcome barriers to learning, such as tutoring or small group support.

3. Wider Approaches

Our Aims & Objectives:

Our intention is that all pupils, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face, make good progress or better progress and achieve well across all subject areas. The focus of our pupil premium strategy is to support disadvantaged pupils to ensure they acquire a good or better level of basic skills and can maximise on their potential. We intend for all of our pupils from a disadvantaged background to leave St John’s as confident individuals who are equipped for the next stage of their education.

Quality First teaching is at the heart of our approach, with a focus on areas in which disadvantaged pupils require the most support. We will offer a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at closing the gap. Pupils will be taught and will make progress across a deep, broad and wide curriculum – they will know more and remember more of the intended National Curriculum.

Based on data obtained from the DfE, London schools served by LGfL are missing out on a total of about £50m in unclaimed Pupil Premium.

We invite you as a parent to participate in an initiative to maintain and drive up the funds received by the school through Pupil Premium. If your child is eligible for a Free School Meal then the school gets extra funding through the Pupil Premium.

To simplify the process by which you can check for free school meals eligibility, there is a web site which provides an immediate response to your application and also notifies the school of eligibility, allowing the school to make arrangements for meal provision and Pupil Premium.
